Spring MaintenancePost-Winter ReviewWestern PA

Spring maintenance for western Pennsylvania homes.

Clean gutters, extend downspouts, check grading, review decks, inspect caulking, test sump pumps, and look for winter damage. Spring is the season to get ahead of it.

Get ahead of it.

A spring checkup gives you the whole season to plan repairs before summer storms and next winter.

Winter Damage

Spring is the time to find what winter left behind.

After a western Pennsylvania winter, freeze/thaw cycles, ice, and heavy snow can leave their mark. Look for cracked or spalled masonry and concrete, loose or missing shingles, failed caulking, separated flashing, and any interior staining that appeared during the coldest months. Catching these items in spring gives you the full season to plan repairs.

Water Management

Clean gutters, extend downspouts, check grading.

Spring rain tests how well a home moves water away from the foundation. Clean the gutters, confirm downspouts extend well past the foundation, check that grading slopes away from the house, and test the sump pump and any battery backup. Small drainage corrections in spring prevent basement moisture problems later in the year.

Exterior Checkup

Decks, caulking, and trees deserve a look.

Warmer weather is a good time to review deck framing, ledger connections, railings, and stairs for safety, inspect exterior caulking and paint, and look at mature trees near the roof and gutters. A home inspection can document these conditions clearly so buyers and homeowners can prioritize seasonal maintenance with confidence.
